#Nigeria decides: May the best man win!

Nigeria decidesAs the February elections are fast approaching (26 days to go – exclusive), the frenzy can be felt everywhere, from picture posters, radio jingles, awkward television adverts, facebook, twitter and generally social media arguments for both sides. I’ve seen and heard it all.

The arguments against the two main contestants can be so persuasive, it is obvious there is no better man for the job, they both have their pros and cons. The fact that an incumbent is facing great opposition from an opponent to whom he won the last election against sends a strong message – the people have been truly disappointed by the performance of the last 6 years, there is the fear that if a 1st term can result in such damage how about a 2nd term where it is popularly known for Nigerian politicians to relax and do nothing but arrange their pensions?…To be fair on our incumbent though, the problems we are currently experiencing didn’t start 6 years ago. Rather they are a result of cumulative bad performance and corruption sown deeply into the fabrics of our society in every facet. Greed and selfishness have been the order of the day. However I dare say Enough is Enough…It is time for revolution not of a violent kind but a revolution of values and attitudes…Nigerians are hungry and ready for something new, however, it is sad that no one new is being presented to us for the post of the number one man in the country.

Yes there is a lot of cry for change out there but I dare to ask tonight, what sort of change are “they” really offering us. I feel it is more of recycled manifestos and personas. I have one secret fantasy, that a good surprise be sprung on us in the person of our elected president. May the electoral process be free and fair. May the electorates not be moved by stomach infrastructure and slogans but by people that have what it takes to really deliver good governance to us at all levels of governance.

But that begs the question: how do we sift through the facade to see those that can really deliver? Since I don’t have the answers, I’ll leave that to you to suggest and all I will say is “May the best man win!!!”

Oh finally before I close: do come out to cast your vote, this is our chance to make a difference, so make it count!
