Air Tragedies: For How Long?

It was on the 1st of October that I was going through a factsheet on Nigeria and I got to the part on plane crashes and thought to myself “thank God we haven’t had any air disaster this year”. Little did I know that I would wake up to the news of another plane crash two days after.
Yesterday’s incidence seemed surreal to me throughout the day but as I went to bed at night, the implications and the magnitude of the disaster started hitting home.
I began to imagine what the already bereaved family must be going through with this double tragedy. I imagined how people that went to offer support and comfort have ended up losing their lives and now their own families are needing comfort. I imagined how those who resumed work cheerfully (or did they have a premonition) this morning have failed to go back home. After all these thoughts my heart bleeds and asks the question ‘for how long will we keep hearing tales of air tragedies?’
Our leaders come out each time and say the same thing after each incident but it seems after it all dies down in the media no one is taking any action to avert future occurrences. I would have thought that Nigerian roads are neglected because the wealthy and influential in Nigeria don’t really ply them but what about the air space that we consider relatively safer and faster that these same leaders use, why is it been neglected?
I stand for the voice that cries no more bloodshed! On our roads and in our airspace.
I pray God comforts the bereaved in Jesus name and that He gives wisdom to the aviation leaders and stakeholders to solve these issues permanently. Amen
God bless Nigeria!!!

Stay Blessed
